James S.

James S. "Steve" Clay, LPC-S

"It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare. There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal."

― C.S. Lewis

My name is Steve Clay. My licensed name is James, but I go by Steve. I am the owner and one of the counselors at North Dallas Christian Counseling. I am a counseling supervisor for the State of Texas. I have been counseling people through God’s Word for more than 20 years. My areas of special emphasis are premarital, marital, and relationship issues, along with care for adults in the areas of identity, depression, addictions, abuse, anger, anxiety and stress, sexual struggles, as well as all other spiritual issues.

History and Journey
I left a full-time job in Arkansas to pursue education in biblical counseling in 1987, having felt a call from God to do so. Prior to that, I developed a deep passion for God’s word and its application to people’s life struggles. Launching out on faith, I moved my family to Dallas to begin the education process. I received my formal education in biblical counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary. While earning that degree, I was employed at Prestonwood Baptist Church, where I served in a variety of roles, most notably as Director of Facility Services and Director of Energy Management and Engineering, leading a team of over 30 employees. Through that experience I gained a tremendous appreciation for the particular struggles of those inside and outside the church environment, as well as an understanding of the complexities of the human experience in balancing work and family priorities. I have served as a counselor at three counseling practices prior to starting North Dallas Christian Counseling in 2014.

Goal and Passion
The Lord has given me a passion for His Word and a love for sharing its truth with others. The Bible’s authority and sufficiency are the central principles that guides the counsel I give to others. My aim for clients is that they would find their hope in Christ alone, to learn to walk in His ways by His Spirit in accordance with His grace. In counseling I seek to build a relationship with people in which they are understood and loved, counseled in a manner that leads them toward clarity, directs them toward a confident embrace of the reality that the Lord has brought them to this current trial and will bring them through it, for their good and His glory.
